LIP LOWERING PROCEDURE
In some cases the teeth are actually the proper size and we do not need to reshape the gums. In this case we would do a Lip Repositioning. This is a minor plastic surgery procedure where we will attach the inside of the lip is closer to the top of the teeth. This allows you to smile so your lip doesn’t pull up as high. An added bonus is that this procedure also increases the fullness of the lip and makes it look more attractive.
We would suggest a lip lowering when the teeth are normal size but the lip pulls up too high and displays an excessive amount of gum tissue. This is another common condition that makes the smile look “gummy”. The lip repositioning procedure reduces the degree of lip retraction and minimizes exposure of gingival tissue, allowing a more “normal,” pleasing smile.
Sometimes Dr. Nemeth chooses to do both the Crown Lengthening and Lip Lowering procedures at the same time to achieve the most ideal cosmetic result.
