We Use 3D Printers to Place Dental Implants

Using a 3D printer allows the placement of dental implants to be more effective and accurate. This capability was previously not available in any periodontal office until now. Before, it would have only been provided to us by an outside lab at a very high cost.  Additionally, the model used to take several days to a few weeks to arrive.  Now, the Form 2 3D printer allows us to save time by producing a surgical guide in-house in just a few hours. This new 3D printer technology is on par with the quality and precision of previously outsourced models. Both our doctors and patients reap the benefits of dental implant technology by reducing surgery time and improving surgical outcomes.

How Surgical Guides Work

The procedure starts before the patient walks through the door the day of surgery by planning out the process on the computer. First, Dr. Katranji uses digital scanners, CT scans and modeling software to get images of the patient’s mouth. These scans allow us to see a virtual model of the teeth, gum and surrounding bone. Then he sends the information to the 3D printer. After just a few hours, the high-resolution guide is ready. The 3D printer has produced an actual surgical guide based off the model.  This surgical guide is meant to be a perfect fit for the patient’s mouth. Several different versions of the model are printed so there are options during the surgery. These multiple options allow for the most precise placement of the dental implant. After 3D printing, the guide is then prepped and sterilized for the procedure.

Why Choose Dental Implants

Dental Implant

Implants provide a permanent solution to tooth loss as they are very durable and are built to last a lifetime. Unlike dentures, you don’t need to take implants out to eat or clean them and there’s no need to reapply them with adhesive. Improperly placed dental implants may lead to bone loss, gum disease or loss of the implant. However, a 3D printer allows for  more properly placed implant which may prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease! A patient that chooses to have quality implants properly placed from the beginning should never need them to be removed or repaired.
